About me

From the consulting room to the classroom and the community:
where I come from

I created Psiquesintiendo to bring together my individual practice, emotional learning resources and opportunities for connection. My path has taken me through clinical practice, teaching and community work in Guatemala.

About me

«A clinical psychologist at heart, licensed by profession».

I am Alejandra Aguirre, a Guatemalan clinical psychologist and founder of Psiquesintiendo. My therapeutic approach combines a humanistic perspective with tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I listen with empathy and respect for each person’s unique experience.

My experience brings together private practice, work with children, teacher training and community projects. I have lived and worked in France, speak Spanish, advanced English and intermediate French, and maintain my ties to Guatemala and Antigua Guatemala.

Within my humanistic approach and use of DBT tools, I support the learning of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness skills. I remain sensitive to trauma, personal history and relationships. My interests include self-esteem, conscious parenting and recovery after relationships marked by manipulation, invalidation or psychological abuse. I am currently studying a postgraduate programme and continue training in DBT, trauma and third-wave therapies.

Approach

Humanistic approach and DBT

My therapeutic approach combines a humanistic perspective with tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I listen with empathy and respect for your individual experience. I support you in practising emotional and relationship skills suited to your needs and goals, with sensitivity to your history and trauma. Other tools are complementary and selected according to assessment and the scope of my practice.

Humanistic

I listen with empathy and respect for your unique experience, autonomy and pace. Your story and needs guide my support.

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

Tools that combine acceptance and change: mindfulness to attend to the present, emotion regulation to understand and respond to feelings, distress tolerance to navigate difficult moments and interpersonal effectiveness to express needs and maintain boundaries.

ACT

Acceptance, values and committed action as a complementary resource.

Behavioural and cognitive-behavioural

Complementary tools to explore learning, habits, thoughts, behaviours and context, according to your needs.

Gestalt

A complementary resource for exploring present experience and recognising needs.

Sensitivity to trauma and relationships

A complementary lens within my humanistic approach and use of DBT tools: attention to your relationship history, safety, boundaries and pace.

Somatic and transpersonal

Complementary resources for body awareness and exploration of meaning, always according to your beliefs, preferences and consent.

I integrate DBT tools into individual psychotherapy; this is not a comprehensive DBT programme. I help you define your goals and adapt the tools to your needs, without promising outcomes.

Mission and vision

Where I want to go

Mission: I want to support you with attentive listening and psychoeducational resources to understand your emotions, practise skills and face everyday difficulties.

Vision: I want to keep building a space that brings together my practice, emotional learning and community proposals, with a clear scope so you can choose what you need.

«The art of inhabiting yourself».

My initiatives

Different ways to connect

I bring together initiatives with different goals. Accessing my resources or a community proposal is not the same as receiving psychotherapy.

Little Kikos by Psiquesintiendo

My initiative for children and families, created in 2024.

RENACER

My psychological travel project in Guatemala, in development.

Community

My proposal for learning and connection, in development.

Understanding the mind, inhabiting what you feel

I invite you to talk about your first step

Tell me whether you want to start therapy, explore my resources or receive information about RENACER. I’ll help you consider the next step for your needs.
